Hockney Dog Days Details

From the Back Cover David Hockney introduces his two dachshunds, Stanley and Boodgie, in this delightful new book. The result of both sharp observation and affection, these paintings and drawings are lyrical studies in form and color. A text by the artist himself gives a behind-the-scenes glimpse of how to work with models who don't necessarily want to sit still. Hockney has provided additional drawings made specially on the page, and has been largely involved in the layout of the book, creating a charming and unified whole. Reviews

I bought this book for an owner of two dachshunds. The book is small, with good quality paper and color. Interspersed with the reproductions of the paintings are many sketches and studies done in a variety of ways - carefully sketched or wildly scribbled. If you are a fan of Hockney's work, you will appreciate the attention he gives to his pets and if you are a fan of weenie dogs, you will appreciate how he can capture their personalities. Not an in depth work of the artist's talent, but it is a fun book for the fan of both dachshunds and Hockney. Very happy with this book.
