OK, I am completely obsessed with Sweeney Todd, ever since I watched the film a few months ago. I actually saw the original on Broadway (Len Cariou & Angela Lansbury) and I was not really taken with it! I didn't hate, but I didn't like that much either. I think I was young, unprepared, and it just went over my head. Oh well! I tend to get obsessed with musicals, but this one was just not on my radar. On a podcast's advice, I decided to try the film before it dropped off Netflix. I figured I'd give it 10 minutes. OMG. I was completely drawn in. I've re-watched it several times. I have both the original Broadway soundtrack and the movie soundtrack downloaded in my amazon prime music. I listen to both almost every day, when I'm driving alone and can sing along, belting at the top of my lungs. So relaxing:) I'm aware that the movie cut out some great songs and shortened others, which is why I occasionally listen to the B'way soundtrack. However, I just LOVE the movie version. So - the music books! Again, I own both. It's true that the B'way one is more accessible - much easier notes to play on the piano. However, it is so woefully inadequate with the song selections, just pitiful. What's the point? They left out the best songs. So I much prefer this movie edition. Even though it is way more challenging to play, it is quite complete in it's song selection, and all the "extras" - little sung dialog before many of the songs. I just love this!
